Abstract: In this paper the author describes the EU funded projects, based on the TIDE initiative, the RAID (December 1991-August 1993) and the EPI-RAID (December 1993-March 1996). The original project, RAID aimed to design a robotic workstation for persons with severe physical disabilities to operate CAD, clerical and accountancy without an assistant. The system was experimented upon at Orup, a rehabilitation centre in Sweden, in May 1993. On receiving significant positive response from the users of RAID, the TIDE office has funded the follow-on project, EPI-RAID. (CIRRIE Abstract)
