Abstract: The development of Telecare Companion, which is a prototype adaptive telecare system, is described in this paper. By telecare we mean the use of telecommunication technology to provide primary care to the elderly, house-bound, disabled or otherwise disadvantaged, in their own homes. The users can contact doctors or have face-to-face conversations, using text, voice and video, with anyone they want. They can access the Internet too. For those who are not experienced using the computer, the system is being designed to automatically adapt aspects of the interface to individual users. (CIRRIE Abstract)
