Abstract: Evaluation of 384 incidents of violence against the person by adult inpatients in general psychiatric units (GPU’s) and learning disability units (LDU’s) in 10 Anglia Region National Health Service Trusts was conducted. Findings indicated deficiencies in documentation incidents (written record for physical restraint was unsatisfactory for 97% of GPU’s and 85% of LDU’s) in staff training for ‘control and restraint’ procedures (3% of GUP’s and 100% of IDU’s, in victim support policies (no written policies for 84% of GPU’s and 44% of LDU’s). Implication is that trusts should consider reviewing policies for staff training in prevention and management of violence. (CIRRIE Abstracts)
