Abstract: The purpose of the study was to analyze if technology transfer models are successful for wheelchair provision, especially to developing countries. A literature review was done and the authors discussed their own experiences with wheelchair technology transfer and used their expertise to develop a model for wheelchair technology transfer. The results showed that previous efforts had not met the need because donated wheelchairs were typically inappropriate for the user, and small scale workshops were not easilyscalable for the large scale production needed. The authors also suggest that expansion of the manufacturing and globalization model to provide wheelchairs may be necessary. (Cirrie Abstract)
